In the fall of 2012, after spending 10 years in the education industry, founder Steve Hyland began the development for the framework that would become Ontario’s first all math virtual high school.
The idea behind the courses was to be video focused while utilizing the knowledge and innovative teaching methods from a team of experienced teachers whose backgrounds included mathematics, engineering and accounting. The core belief of Ontario Online Academy has always been to focus on delivering concepts as clearly and efficiently as possible and then building students confidence with successful results.
On July 1st, 2014, Ontario Online Academy opened with 5 students and 2 courses; Data Management and Advanced Functions. After one year and many challenges (including over 1000 videos filmed), on July 1st, 2015, Ontario Online Academy had grown to over 100 students and 7 courses; including Grade 9 Academic Math, Grade 10 Academic Math, Functions 11, Functions and Applications and Calculus and Vectors.
